A conclusion to our read-along blog series of Shirley by Charlotte Brontë.
Welcome back, dearest Janeites, to the Austen-Brontë reader series.
Thank you for joining me as we explored Shirley this summer. After finishing our journey last week, we just couldn't conclude our time together without a final post and farewell. Below is a brief recap for those who were not able to join us.
Over the past six weeks I have covered Charlotte Brontë's literary dark horse Shirley. Every Wednesday, beginning June 12, I posted a summary & reflection on the selection of six to seven chapters I read during the week, typically including illustrations and historical context.
It was my first perusal of the novel, so readers were able to experience my first thoughts and impressions right alongside me. Additionally, this Monday I joined fellow JASP blogger and Project Manager for the Janeite Spotlight, Sarah Hurley, and Jane Austen & Co.'s Technical Director, Na'dayah Pugh, for the final episode of their popular Jane Eyre vlog series. Topics discussed included the many adaptations of Jane Eyre as well as the connection between Brontë's debut novel and Shirley. You can find that video here on JASP's YouTube channel.
I will soon be returning to the read-along format with yet another Charlotte Brontë novel: Villette. (Please stay tuned for more information and scheduling.) Once again, thank you for reading along with me. And rather than say farewell, dear readers, I will say, until the next.
