This December, celebrate the holidays in style -- with us in Chapel Hill, N.C.! The Jane Austen Summer Program is hosting "A Day Out With Emma," featuring speakers and activities preceding an evening performance of "Emma" by PlayMakers Repertory Company. This stage adaptation of "Emma" is Kate Hamill's third outing with Austen, after her widely acclaimed versions of Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility.

Start shopping for Austen-centric holiday gifts at noon, then hear a presentation by scholar Peter Graham on "Finding Mr. Right in Emma (and in Life)." Other festivities include a Q&A with a member of PlayMakers' "Emma" cast and crew, a presentation by Virginia-Claire Tharrington on Emma adaptations, a craft workshop, and pre-show refreshments. Then it's showtime: Take a seat in our reserved section for the 7:30 p.m. performance of "Emma."

We have several attendance options, even if you can't make it to Chapel Hill, N.C.:

  • Box Hill ($150): "At Christmas every body invites their friends and thinks little of even the worst weather." Go all out with our Box Hill package, featuring admission to all pre-show talks and activities, plus reserved group seating for the play. LIMITED QUANTITY; RESERVE BY NOV. 18.

  • Highbury ($125): "You must be the best judge of your own happiness." Our Highbury package offers admission to all pre-show talks and activities. Does not include the stage performance.

  • Hartfield ($25): “There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.” Can't join us in person? Enjoy limited-time access to videos of some of the talks after the event.
