The Sense and Sensibility Vlog Series: On Romance & Suitors

Updated: May 6

Welcome back, my darling readers, to the Sense and Sensibility vlog series! My co-hosts and I hope you enjoy this episode breaking down the three distinct love interests who attempt to sweep Elinor and Marianne Dashwood off their feet throughout the novel. This episode is a little longer than our usual content—obviously, romance is a hot topic in any conversation relating to Jane Austen, and I must admit we got a bit carried away with our thoughts and feelings! Highlights of the video include the "I'm just Ken"-ification of Edward Ferrars, Mr. Willoughby's talent for gaslighting young ladies, and an enlightening revelation about the type of love interests Austen encouraged her readers to support during an era championing the "brooding romantic hero" archetype as the ultimate fictional crush.

If you missed last week's video on the history of Sense and Sensibility, you can check it out here on JASP's YouTube channel. We'll see you again next Tuesday, May 6, with an episode discussing the historical and contemporary meanings of the words "sense" and "sensibility." In the meantime, happy viewing!
