Bridgerton: An Austen-ish Netflix Show

Disappointed that “Sanditon” will likely not be getting a second season? Impatient for the next “Pride & Prejudice” adaptation by the makers of Poldark? Not too keen on watching the latest “Emma” again?

Fear not, Janeites! An appetite quencher is on its way from an unlikely source: Shondaland.

That’s right, the queen of prime-time TV, Shonda Rhimes, who has given us addictive shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder,” and “Scandal,” is the woman behind the adaptation of the Regency-set “Bridgerton” series. The first season will be available on Netflix starting Dec.25.

The novels — eight of them — by Julia Quinn center on the children of the late Viscount Bridgerton.

The Netflix series stars Julie Andrews, Ruth Gemmell and Adjoa Andoh. Watch the trailer below.
