At a reception on Aug. 26, the Jane Austen Summer Program received the Harlan Joel Gradin Award for Excellence in Public Humanities from the North Carolina Humanities Council. The award, according to the council, honors “significant, imaginative, Council funded public humanities projects that reflect and affirm the Council’s mission.”

The Jane Austen Summer Program was recognized for its educator capacity-building efforts. Since its inception, JASP has awarded 22 teachers — representing 19 counties across the state — free admission and 20 other teachers discounted admission.

JASP would like to thank Ronnie Jackson, founder of the teacher scholar program and its first chair, as well as all the members of the committee past and present. The incoming chair is Kathryn Edelstein.
