high school educators, graduate and undergraduate students, and Austen enthusiasts alike, this year's program -- "Austen's Teenage Writings" -- will center on Austen’s juvenilia as well as the short novel Lady Susan. The verve and irreverence of Austen's juvenile writing can be a perfect gateway into an appreciation for her later work, help demystify "old" writing, and serve as an inspiration for young writers working on finding their voices. As always, JASP will take an interdisciplinary approach to our topic, with presenters from a variety of humanist fields, including literature, theatre, material history, and more.

The scholarship program is open to all current middle school and high school teachers who want to learn more about incorporating Jane Austen, youth writing, and innovative practices in their curriculum. We encourage current teachers and teacher leaders in English, Social Studies, History, Drama, Theater, and other relevant disciplines to apply! Spend your JASP conference gathering ideas on how to incorporate older texts, historic periods, close reading, Digital Humanities, and experiential education into your curriculum. Special teacher-focused panels and events also provide a chance to network with other like-minded educators, leading to lasting collaboration.

Scholarships cover the full tuition fee and materials, including all seminars, panels, lectures (including teacher-only sessions), small-group discussions, a tote bag, dance lessons, one ticket to the Regency Ball, our famous "elevenses," a welcome reception and a special welcome luncheon for teacher scholars. You will have access to Teacher Talks such as “Youth Voice and Writing: Empowering Student Voices” and “Implementing Austen: Teen Writing with Teen Writers." Completion of JASP bestows 3 CEUs for licensure renewal, based on 30 hours of contact.

“I found the Jane Austen Summer Program to be one of the most inspirational events I have ever attended. It is an experience that has had a lasting positive impact on my practice as a teacher!” - 2017 Scholarship Recipient
