Venable Rotisserie Bistro is good for “elevated comfort food” — upscale gourmet food, such as sesame tuna and leg of lamb. 200 N. Greensboro St. (Carr Mill Mall)
The Milltown Gastropub offers patio seating, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, and a wide selection of beer and an eclectic menu. 307 E. Main St.

Tyler’s built its local fan base on its traditional American fare, such as Carolina barbecue sandwiches and mac-and-cheese. 102 E. Main. St.
Named an “American Classic” by the James Beard Foundation, Crook’s Corner puts Southern comfort on the table with dishes such as shrimp and grits. It offers dinner, dessert and brunch. 610 W. Franklin St.

Go Greek at Kipos with classics including spanakopita, moussaka and yiouvarelakia (rice meatballs). 431 W. Franklin St.
