The Sense and Sensibility Vlog Series: On Themes of Movement & Displacement

Welcome back to the Sense and Sensibility vlog series, dear readers! My co-hosts and I sincerely hope you enjoy this episode briefly summarizing themes of geographical and emotional displacement in the novel, as well as the importance of physical movement in film and television adaptations of the text. Highlights of the video include Na'dayah's spirited walk-through of "The Awkward Scene" in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility (1995), several good-natured jokes about Maizie's cornfield-laden home state of Kansas, and some exciting news regarding Sarah's rapidly-approaching move abroad...

If you missed last week's video on literature, music, and art in the novel, you can check it out here on JASP's YouTube channel. We'll see you again next Tuesday, May 26, with an episode discussing sisterhood in Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility. Until then, happy viewing!

The Sense and Sensibility vlog series promotes JASP 2025: Sensibility and Domesticity, which will take place in New Bern, NC, on June 19-22. The Jane Austen Summer Program is designed to appeal to anyone with a passion for all things Jane Austen. Attendees include people from all walks of life, as well as established scholars, high school teachers, and students from middle school through graduate school. We can't wait to see you there!

JASP 2025 is partially supported by a grant from North Carolina Humanities.
