EARLY NOTICE! Plans are coming together nicely for a ” Sewing a Regency Spencer” weekend at Old Salem’s Zevely Inn and Bethabara Park Visitor Center.
Many sessions are free or reasonably priced but space is limited and reservations are required. The schedule for the weekend looks like this – so far:
Friday 4/10
10 -12 Noon MESDA Library period textile sample books study session (Free) Old Salem
2 – 5 pm Shopping at 96 District Fabrics historic textiles and notions (Free) Bethabara Park VisitorCenter
7 – 9 pm “A Housewife of Your Own” What is in YOUR period sewing kit? Hand sewing with friends at The Zevely Inn at Old Salem (Free)
Saturday 4/11
10 – 12 Noon Hand sewing at The Single Sister’s House (Free) OR Leisure time to explore Old Salem
1:30 – 4:30 pm Regency Spencer Workshop Day 1 ($50) Basic fitting muslin, fitting assistance, sewing machines & expert assistance included and shopping at 96 District Fabrics (Free) Bethabara Historic Park Visitor Center OR bring your own fabric
7 – 9 pm Handsewing at The Zevely Inn (Free)
Sunday 4/12
10 – 1pm Checkout of the Inn; church service at 1st Moravian Church; explore Old Salem on your own ( Garden Walking Tour???)
1:30 – 4:30pm Regency Spencer Workshop Day 2 ($ 50) Sleeve construction, fitting sessions & trim planning to work towards completion and shopping at 96 District Fabrics (Free)

Accommodations are blocked at The Zevely Inn for rooms #03 Gunpowder Magazine Room ($110); #201 $155 and #203, 204, 205, 206 ($115 each) and includes a full hot buffet breakfast & free parking. The inn is located in the heart of the historic district of Old Salem.Wake up in 1815 each morning and sew with us all day!
Your workshop fee includes a fitting muslin for a basic spencer in your size. Options for collar styles and sleeves will be available at the workshop. Closure and trim options will be discussed. Experienced seamstresses will be available to help you every step of the way.
Basic/Intermediate sewing skill are required to move through your project toward completion YES – you can bring fabric you already own for this workshop! 1.5 yards of 54″ fashion fabric & 2.5 yards 45″ lining fabric. Natural fibers such as wool, cotton, silk or linen single weaves or other period reproduction textiles are recommended. If you have a picture of a spencer you would like to make, please bring it with you!
